MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) -- Miami Gardens Police have made an arrest after a car was stolen allegedly with a two-year-old child still sitting in the back seat.

Officers responded to the call at the Liquor Mart located at 4662 N.W. 83rd Street Friday night.

The car's owner, Doneal Ford, initially told officers that his goddaughter was inside his yellow 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse while he left it running outside the store, just before it was stolen.

Investigators later determined the child was with her mother the entire day and never in Ford's custody.

The car was later found abandoned at 4955 N.W. 199th Street.

Ford was charged with filing a false police report. He was also discovered to have an open warrant for marijuana possession.

An investigation into the stolen vehicle remains ongoing.
