WEST PALM BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — A former Delray Beach doctor has been sentenced to five years in prison in connection with the overdose death of one of his patients.

On Wednesday, Barry Schultz pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the death of 50-year old David Tain.

Investigators said Schultz, 60, prescribed a "reckless" amount of methadone to Tain in 2010. Tain died three days later.

The five year prison sentence will run concurrently with a 25-year sentence he's already serving for drug trafficking crimes. A jury in November found Schultz guilty of prescribing as many as 20,000 narcotics pills to patients who came to his office complaining of pain.

Schultz is appealing his November conviction on the drug charges, while prosecutors are appealing his sentence for that conviction.
