MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson is taking his campaign to South Florida for the first time.

Johnson along with his running mate, Bill Weld, are set to host an event for supporters Wednesday evening at Florida International University in Miami, according to our news partners at the Miami Herald.

This is their first local appearance since they were nominated in Orlando back in May.

As for his campaign, Johnson said his main goal is to be able to face Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump in a televised debate. To do that, he would need to reach 15 percent support in a number of polls.

At last check, Florida polls show Johnson with as much as 9 percent support (NBC News/ Wall Street) and as low as 5 percent in another poll (CBS/YouGov).

Johnson is the former governor of New Mexico and his running mate is the former Massachussets governor.
