MIAMI LAKES (CBSMiami) -- The Orange Bowl Family Fun & Fit Day gave parents and kids alike the chance to get out and get fit Saturday afternoon in Miami Lakes.

Hundreds came out for the free event, presented by Sunshine Health, at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, August 13th, that included health screenings, fitness classes and interactive demonstrations.

"Each year, we look forward to this event as a chance to make a big impact on South Florida families and children getting ready to go back to school," said Orange Bowl community outreach chair Jeff Rubin.

Now in its fourth year and previously known as the Orange Bowl Health and Wellness Fair, it aimed to address the health and medical needs of the South Florida community, while encouraging youth and families to improve their eating habits and maintain a physically active lifestyle.

"You get to mingle, meet new people, children playing, you can't do better than that," said Sabrina Bryant, who were brought her children Jerome and Aiden along. "It's a great outing for the kids."

The event also offered free haircuts and backpacks with school supplies, and had plenty of stuff for the kids including a youth football clinic, raffles, bounce houses and games.

"It's great for the community, it's needed, it's bringing people together," said mother Camilla Henry. "It's a great opportunity for (the kids) to grow."
