Dolphins Help Sick Teen Tackle His Wish

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A young Miami Dolphins fan got to spend a day with his favorite team thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Trevor Thomas, 17, works on tackling his disease with the help of some familiar faces from the football field. A hug and hello from Jarvis Landry, a chat with Cameron Wake on the Dolphins practice field; he even a look inside the player's locker room.

It's a series of memories Thomas will never forget.

"I got to tour the locker room. I got to see the weight room and the other facilities. It was great," said Thomas.

His journey to Miami began when he was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. The Make-A-Wish Foundation and the NFL makes it possible for him to visit Miami from New Jersey every year to check out his favorite team.

"I became a Dolphins fan because of my dad and it just carried through the family and still does," said Thomas. "It's a great time. I come here every year. Now I'm just hoping this will be the year we make it to the Super Bowl."

While his favorite team wasn't in it, last February Thomas did make it to the last Super Bowl thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The foundation has sent children to the big game every year since 1982.

This past week Thomas once again got to hang out with his Landry, his favorite player.

"It was an awesome experience. He's a great guy. He is such a great person to talk to," said Thomas.

Thomas' ultimate wish for his favorite sports team is that one day they'll make it to the Super Bowl and he'll get to attend.
