Ex-Dade Detective Sentenced To Prison For Fraud

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A former Miami-Dade County police detective, who was convicted earlier this year on eight charges for his role in a credit history fraud scheme, has been sentenced to two and half years in federal prison.

Trial evidence showed Rafael Duran wrote police reports falsely claiming that customers of a credit repair company were victims of identity theft. The credit repair firm used those fake reports to improve the customers' credit ratings, allowing them to obtain commercial lines of credit that later went into default.

Evidence also showed Duran falsified identity theft reports for himself to remove from his credit history a Naples condominium mortgage he stopped paying.

Duran served with the Miami-Dade Police Department from 1994 till March 2016.
