DAVIE (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins added a big name to their backfield on Monday.

Free agent running back Arian Foster has signed a one-year contract worth $1.5 million with the Dolphins.

Foster was at the Dolphins practice facility in Davie on Monday, his second visit with the team this offseason.

"I still feel like I'm a Pro Bowl-caliber player, and I intend to show it," he said following the signing.

Last season Foster ruptured his Achilles tendon during a Week 6 matchup against, ironically, the Dolphins, and sat out the rest of the season.

The season before in 2014, he rushed for 1,246 yards in just 13 games, averaging 4.8 yards per carry.

The Dolphins must feel confident that Foster is healed from his injury.

The veteran running back, who will turn 30 in August, showed excitement about playing in new Dolphins head coach Adam Gase's system.

"I think Adam [Gase] really knows how to use running backs out of the backfield, which I feel like is my best quality – route running and catching the ball out of the backfield. I think he knows how to steer the ship. I'm just happy to be a part [of it and] have a seat on the boat now," Foster said.

The Detroit Lions had a meeting scheduled with Foster for Monday afternoon but that never happened due to him signing the deal with Miami.

"My interest and their [other teams] interest was spotty here and there," he explained. "But after my visit with Miami, I kind of already made my mind up that that's where I wanted to be, so I was stressing to my agent that I wanted to get the deal done, because I see a lot of promise in this team, and I feel like I can add value and help the team get to where they want to be. I'm going to try to do that as best as possible."

Foster joins second year back Jay Ajayi and rookie Kenyan Drake in the Dolphins backfield.
