July 14 UPDATE: Hollywood Police have spoken to the individual in question and have determined that he had no criminal intentions during his interactions with the family.

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) -- Police are asking for the community's help in finding a man who attempted to interact with a 1-year-old child on several occasions in Hollywood.

It started on Saturday, July 9th, along Polk Street in west Hollywood.

A homeowner told officers that the man was lingering and acting suspiciously outside of the home.

"His last time around he was waving out of his van and saying, 'Bye, bye.' And he said my daughter's name, which was concerning," the toddler's mother told CBS4's Hank Tester.

According to the mother, the man first showed up during a garage sale over the weekend.

"On Saturday and Sunday there were garage sales. Maybe that's the reason for the stop," the concerned mother said. "But what was the reason on Monday? He had absolutely no reason. He had absolutely no reason to stop by my home on Monday."

Surveillance cameras captured the third time he tried knocking on the front door where the child lived.

"Even when we were speaking to him, he was peaking over my shoulder and my daughter was behind us. He seemed really interested in her," the mother said.

But while the 1-year-old's mother is worried, she wants to make clear she isn't accusing anyone of a crime.

"I don't want to accuse him of anything and I'm not trying to say he tried to grab my daughter," she said.

He's described as in his 50's or 60's, balding, wearing glasses and maybe has had a stroke. He was driving an older model beige GMC van.

The Hollywood Police Department's Special Victims Unit is asking for anyone who may recognize this guy to call them at (954) 493-TIPS.
