HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) - It's the newest, hottest, gastropub on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood. A small space that packs a big punch, owned and operated by executive chef Kevin Dreifuss who first made a name for himself running a popular food truck.

Four months ago he opened his eatery with the catchy name "Ends Meat".

"It's a little play on words, all we're trying to do is make ends meet," Dreifuss said.

Kevin and his wife Georgina are doing just that and then some. This hip bistro which serves up a creative menu in a funky space has become popular with locals and tourists alike.

"We call it a new Floridian bistro. It's all fresh and seasonal. The only thing we have in my freezer is french fries and frozen grapes, that's what you get with your check," said Dreifuss.

The space is quirky and fun, with upside down lamps hanging from the ceiling.

"My wife and I built everything in the bar, the lights, everything, I like the lamps, they add depth to the space," said Dreifuss.

The bar menu is filled with all craft beers and wines at affordable prices.

The kitchen itself is in full view.

"We put our kitchen in the middle of restaurant because we want our guests to see what's being made," he explained.

CBS4's Lisa Petrillo began her tasting with the Mitch Head Burger. It's double patties of hanger steak, short rib and sirloin topped with bacon, horseradish Havarti cheese and arugula.

"The sear is perfect. You really can taste the quality of the meat. It's perfectly cooked and then a great crunch of bacon pop in middle. The arugula on top gives it elegance," said Petrillo.

Next, Kevin's famous fish tacos with cod, chipotle aioli cabbage, pico de gallo and cheese.

"This is fantastic," Petrillo said a bite. "It's super fresh, it's huge. It feels like an amazing meal you'd get somewhere in Mexico."

And finally chef Kevin's vegan dish; Mushrooms Scallops with King Trumpet Mushrooms, made to look and taste like real scallops with farro and spring vegetables.

"You really wouldn't know this is a vegan dish. The scallops, which are King mushrooms, really taste like scallops. If your a vegan or a "wanna be vegan" for a day, this is your dish," said Petrillo.

Ends Meat is open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner - Brunch on the weekends.
