MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Pembroke Pines Police responded to a call about a mannequin on fire only to find out it was a human being.

Officers said a witness called just before 7 a.m. saying there was a mannequin ablaze near a shopping plaza off Pines Boulevard - East of Flamingo Road. Authorities arrived to find something else.

"When the fire department arrived, they realized that it wasn't a mannequin, that it was actually a human being who was deceased. They extinguished the fire and when police arrived, they initiated an investigation into what may have occurred," said Capt. Al Xiques with Pembroke Pines Police.

It remains unclear how he died.

"We don't have any specific information that would determine whether or not he was deceased or not prior to the fire, " said Capt. Al Xiques with Pembroke Pines Police.

Investigators secured the area for what they are calling an "undetermined death investigation."

The identity of the victim is unknown at this time.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493- TIPS.
