Bal Harbour Police Chief Recovering In Hospital After Heart Attack

BAL HARBOUR (CBSMiami) – Bal Habour's police chief is in the hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Miami Beach police and fire rescue went to a business south of 5th Street Monday morning to check out Chief Mark Overton who had had a medical episode.

The 53-year-old is at Mount Sinai Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Overton was born in Miami Beach in 1962. His family moved to Hialeah shortly thereafter, which is where he grew up.

He joined the Hialeah Police Department at 21 years old. He served in several different units before becoming chief in 2007.

After 28 years of service, Overton retired from Hialeah PD and accepted a position as the deputy chief for the Miami Beach Police Department.

Overton then became Bal Harbour's police chief in 2014.
