MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Dolphins Cancer Challenge has been growing more and more every year.

On Wednesday the DCC reached a new high in fundraising as the Dolphins presented a check to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami in the amount of $5,064,381.

It is the largest single event donation that an NFL franchise has ever presented to a charity.

The money was raised during the 2015-16 Dolphins Cancer Challenge (DCC VI).

"It's a total team effort and it's really rewarding that the Dolphins, the community and the University of Miami have all gotten together to bring in money, both for research to fight cancer as well as to help provide a world-class cancer center in Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami," Dolphins President/CEO Tom Garfinkel told the team's website.

The Dolphins started the DCC in 2010 as the signature initiative of the Miami Dolphins Foundation.

The 2016 event was held on February 20th and included over 3,000 bike riders, runners and walkers.

The total amount the DCC has raised since its inception is over $16 million.
