FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) — A Boynton Beach man was charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly beat his roommate's dog and tied it to a doorknob in the backyard of a house without giving it water.

Twenty two year old Marquan Parks' roommate found his female pit bull dead at the home in September. It was wearing a choke chain and was tethered to the back doorknob with a leash.

A necropsy concluded that the dog died of probable strangulation and contributing factors like heat stroke.

Parks reportedly told police that he beat the dog and tied it to the doorknob after the animal chewed up his shoes.
