MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami police are searching for a man who they said broke into a parked car and stole two assault rifles.

It happened Sunday afternoon at a condo building on 1050 Brickell Avenue.

Police said the suspect made his way into the parking garage through a stairwell.

"We see a man starts going around opening car doors," said Miami police spokesperson Kenia Fallat.

The man was captured on surveillance opening the door of a 2016 Black Mercedes Benz E 400.

"He made his way inside the car, started ransacking the car," Fallat explained. "Took about four minutes inside and then popped the trunk. But when he opened the trunk, he found that there were two assault rifles."

The man puts the weapons in a blue Adidas book bag and takes off.

He was wearing a red-orange shirt, camouflage shorts and a black hat.

Investigators believe the 6-foot, slim built suspect may be linked to other recent car break-ins in the area.

Residents are now uneasy wondering how the man managed to get inside a building they considered to be secure.

"It's very hard to get into our building. Our doormen are great. We have a great security team," said resident Samantha Galbo.

Another concerned resident, Maya Bloomberg, said, "You have to have a security fob.  In order to get into the garage, you have to scan it. In order to get in the building you have to scan your fob."

Now police need your help catching this man.

"Having those two assault rifles on the street and falling into the wrong hands is a big mistake," Fallat said. "We need to know who this man is, where those guns are and definitely his whereabouts."

If you have any information, you are urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
