BROWARD (CBSMiami) – Broward Sheriff's Office Sgt. Kreg Costa is reportedly in grave condition after shooting himself Wednesday evening.

"Something did happen at the side of the house. It happened in the back or side of the house," said neighbor Tracey Robinson.

Sunrise police found Costa outside on the side of his house at 9100 block of Sunset Strip shortly after receiving a 911 call at around 5:30 p.m.

Sheriff Scott Israel confirmed the shooting early Wednesday night.

Costa was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center in grave condition. Authorities did not say where he shot himself.

The 43 year old had bonded out eight hours earlier.

He was taken into custody Thursday, June 9th, on multiple counts of child pornography.

"I never knew it was him. I saw him all the time, but I never knew my neighbor had allegations against him for child pornography," Robinson said.

Costa allegedly exchanged sexually explicit messages through emails, Twitter and videos with a teen girl.

At one point, investigators said, he instructed the teen to record herself engaging in sex acts.

The teen, who used the handle "Babygirl," told BSO investigators when she first started communicating with Costa, whom she knew by his Twitter handle @CallMeSir34, she told him she was 15.

BSO suspended Costa with pay on April 24 while the investigation continued. He was arrested Thursday when he arrived at the Public Safety Building for a training class.

The sergeant used to be a coach in a Broward County youth football organization. Costa, according to the documents, was shadowing young cheerleaders from the group on twitter.
