ORLANDO (CBSMiami) -- It's another's day of waiting for a man – inside an Orlando nightclub when the shooter walked in – killing at least 49 people.

Juan Antonetti is waiting to get his car back. He was at the Pulse nightclub on the patio Sunday morning when the shooter Omar Mateen began firing.

"People were screaming and running. I was hearing gunshots," said Antonetti. "It was a lot."

He said he hid under a table until police rescued him. He says he knew half of the 49 people who died in the massacre.

"You go into a club now, hanging out chilling with your friends like family and you notice that that day you're going to get killed," said Antonetti.

The mass killing has had a deep and lasting impact on Orlando.

The Springers who knew some of the victims offered prayers at one of the many makeshift memorials around the city.

"I think in a way it united the city," said resident Denise Springer. "I think a lot of changes are going to be happening for the better because of this."

At the LGBT Center, an avalanche of donations continue to pour in - all are being donated to the victims and their families.

In the wake of the shootings the center has stepped up security. Police are offering their assistance.

Board member Rob Domenico - a regular at the nightclub - says he is not surprised at published reports that the shooter may have had gay leanings.

" I don't feel that this was ISIS-related. I feel like this was an individualized attack on the LGBT community by someone who was oppressing their own homosexual tendencies," said Domenico.
