Gas Prices Heating Up

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Gas prices, like our summer temperatures, are heating up.

In the last week, the average price for regular unleaded in the state jumped a dime - from $2.25 to $2.35 per gallon, according to American Automobile Association (AAA). In Miami-Dade and Broward drivers are paying, on average, $2.41 a gallon.

The auto group says This year's summer driving season is expected to be characterized by higher-than-normal gasoline demand so expect more incremental increases.

Another factor that could play into price increases are tropical storms or hurricanes in the Gulf.

The Gulf Coast region is home to more than 45 percent of the country's petroleum refining capacity, according to the AAA. Because Florida gas is mostly imported from those refineries, any shipment delay could cause prices to go up.
