MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Investigators are working hard to catch the culprits that robbed an elderly couple inside the garage of their home.

Gwen Peiffer, 90, told CBS4 News that she was backing up out of a bank parking lot one day in May when her tire popped. She decided to keep driving to her home, a short distance away. That's where she was robbed and she believes the thieves targeted her at the bank.

Peiffer remembers the moment she and her husband were about to walk into their home a month ago and a thief came into their garage and robbed them.

"They pushed him aside and took the purse off my shoulder," she said.

Miami-Dade police said the bad guys made off with more than $10,000 in cash and all of Gwen's personal identification.

Police released surveillance video of the white minivan that investigators believe the thieves drove the day of the crime.

Before the robbery, Peiffer said she and her husband left their bank after making a withdrawal and heard their back right tire pop.

She believes the thieves targeted them at the bank and a neighbor told her that their tire was cut intentionally.

"He looked at the tire and he says, 'They slashed this,'" Peiffer said. "There's no way that could have happened any other way."

Gwen Peiffer still teaches dance and she lives to laugh. Sadly, she said this crime is making her rethink the way she lives her life.

"You have to be so careful with everything you do," she said. "It makes life unbearable. I'm used to laughing, dancing, being…trusting people, looking at people, thinking they're great. What are you gonna do?"

If you have any information on who these criminals are, contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 493-TIPS.
