Dual Home Invasion Turns Deadly In Little Havana

LITTLE HAVANA (CBSMiami) -- A violent home invasion in Miami has left a man dead and several people beaten.
Miami Police blocked off the neighborhood street as they investigated the scene Saturday morning, June 4th, at an apartment near S.W. 15th Avenue and 2nd Street.
Masked gunmen broke into a set of apartments, beat and robbed the men there -- before shooting and killing one of them.
"I wake up and I see police and people tell me he got killed," said Angel Aguilar, who lives nearby.
One of the victims, Raul Cazaplo, said it was four masked gunmen. They ordered him and another elderly neighbor to be quiet by pistol-whipping them.
"I was not killed, a miracle," Cazaplo said in Spanish. "I went to get up and 'pop,' right on the head."
The crooks left him with nothing, he said, taking his money, jewelry and cellphone. Though, he still has his life.
Cazaplo told CBS4's Donna Rapado that at one point, he heard six or seven gunshots.
His neighbor was shot and killed.
Down the street, residents described the deceased victim as a great guy, affectionately calling him "tio" -- Spanish for "uncle."
"I don't know real good him but he looked like he was a real good guy," said Aguilar. "He's friendly to everybody. Friendly."
They say it's a mostly quiet, modest neighborhood, making it harder to understand why anyone would kill to take what little they have.
"I'm in shock because I live in the front of the house," said Natalia Moreno. "I have a baby. And I'm so scared because of this. I found a person killed in front of my house. I'm so scared for that."
