On The Radar: Offseason Series – Part 25

This is the week when school is over and football prospects all over South Florida start to head out to events throughout the state and the southeast.

No longer is summer a time when you can kick back and relax. If you do that, you will most definitely fall behind as camps, combines, 7-on-7 events and now the satellite showcase events will keep everyone busy for the next two months.

The best thing about summer for many football prospects is that they have a chance to improve against some of the best competition you will find. Local events and camps that are hosted by colleges will occupy the time while giving the student/athletes an experience that will last a lifetime.

Throughout June and July, there will be enough events going to keep everyone occupied. Daily team workouts are followed by 7-on-7 events that keep athletes in shape and ready for when things kick back up again in August.

While there are many high school coaches who still do not believe in the 7-on-7 events, those are usually programs that do not fare well and start to lose their players.

Times have changed when it comes to making summer plans. The days of "old school' football are over. Camps and other events have taken center stage – and no matter what Alabama head coach Nick Saban says – they are here to stay.

If you read our information each day, you already know that our objective is to not only keep the fans up-to-date on the prospects but also give colleges a glimpse of the tremendous football players we have.

Today, we bring you six more football prospects in south Florida that are now On The Radar:

2018 – Keshawn Brownlee, WR/CB, 5-10, 165, Hialeah-Miami Lakes: Despite a coaching change this year, here is a rising prospect who brings it all to the table – from both sides of the playing field. Brownlee is a very athletic football player who has the speed and passion to compete at a high level. This year will certainly put him in the spotlight as colleges are finding out a lot about him. Being versatile is a huge boost to this quality athlete, who is giving colleges an option where to line him up at that next level. This will be a huge year ahead.

2017 – Emlyn Desir, DT/DE, 6-0, 220, Plantation: After watching this young man perform the past season, there is no doubt that he will become a catalyst for a program that is rebuilding with a new coaching staff. Like so talented football players in the past who have made an impact with the Colonels, Desir is yet another player who has plenty of passion for the game and gets off the ball quickly, putting himself in a position to make plays. He is very strong and aggressive play helped to put him on the map last season. Desir should have a huge 2016.

2018 – Trey Flowers, RB, 5-9, 205, Miami Palmetto: Because we get a chance to watch so many football players live during the course of a year, we get an opportunity to come across a rising standout like this who combines speed, power and tremendous running vision. Saw him compete a number times during the spring and believe that this is going to be a player who will start picking up serious momentum. In an area that churns out such impressive talent, Flowers is certainly one who will dazzle over the next two years for the Panthers.

2018 – Tommy Govan, DE/DT, 6-0, 245, Davie Nova: After a tremendous season in 2015 – the best the program has enjoyed in 20 years, it will be back to the drawing board for the Titans this coming season, but the great thing about it will be the return of this quality football player who figures to make a huge impression. Govan is a quality football talent who can make a difference for this team that will still be in the hunt for a playoff spot. This is the year that he starts to pick up recruiting momentum.

2017 – Jamar Thompkins, RB/Slot, 5-10, 185, Coral Gables: One of the best moves in the offseason was this quality football player making the move from South Miami. While he figures to split time at running back, you will see the Cavaliers use this outstanding talent at a number of positions. In the spring, this program got a look at him at receiver, which makes sense since he is quick, instinctive and has solid running skills. The coaches are very excited to see him in the mix with the other talented offensive weapons this team has.

2017 – Isaiah Thompson, DB, 6-0, 165, Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson: Having the opportunity to watch so many talented athletes perform, you come across a prospect like this who has tremendous skill and has been taught very well. College coaches who watched during the spring as well as in the scrimmages, saw a truly under the radar athlete who has size, athletic ability and a knack of making a huge impact this season. Thompson's ability to cover as well as make hits as a safety has given coaches at the next level something to think about. His senior season will mean everything - now that he has gotten everyone's attention. Keep an eye out for this quality football player in 2016. He will be one of the huge surprises for a very talented team.
