PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) – Authorities said an incident that ended with a teen shot in the forehead by his peer was intentional.

The call came in at 12:30 p.m. that the minor had been shot. It happened at a home in the 8200 block of NW 10th Street in Pembroke Pines.

A 16-year-old boy was put under arrest and charged with attempted manslaughter.

"Both the victim and the suspect were together in one room. The suspect discharged the firearm and struck the victim in the forehead. Shortly thereafter, the suspect did call 911, at which time police and fire responded to the scene," said Capt. Al Xiques of the Pembroke Pines Police Dept.

Later, police confirmed that the shooting was not an accident.

Neighbors had no idea.

"It's kind of creepy to see the truck and the barricade and all this going on in your block when it's a quiet neighborhood and you have a little one and you don't know what's going on," said neighbor Netta Nicosia.

Nicosia lives a couple doors down. She, like most of her neighbors, was in the dark about what happened.

"I didn't really know anything was going on until boom all the cops were in the front yard," said another neighbor who didn't want to reveal their identity.

Fire rescue told CBS4 the victim was alert and conscious when he was rushed to the hospital. He was listed in "guarded condition."

"I believe that schools should start teaching gun safety. If they're going to teach sex education, why can't they teach gun safety instead of having all these accidents?" Nicosia said. "It's going to be too hard to get rid of people's guns, so can't they add that into the curriculum somehow?"
