Lauren's List: The Simple Things People Use to "Judge" You

Follow CBSMIAMI.COM: Facebook | Twitter

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - You've heard the age-old advice before - "Never judge a book by its cover."

Well, whether it's a blind date or a job interview, when it comes to meeting new people and developing first impressions, that cover is pretty much all you have to go on.

This "Lauren's List" is all about the simple things we do that people use to judge our personalities.

First up, your handshake.

Business Insider reports studies have found people with firm handshakes were more likely to be extroverted and emotionally expressive and less likely to be shy and neurotic.

If your handshake is limp or clammy, people might think you lack confidence.

Next on "Lauren's List" is whether you show up on time.

Research shows those who are chronically late aren't necessarily inconsiderate people, but they're probably more laid-back and "go with the flow".

Another simple thing you do that people could judge you on is your handwriting.

Professional graphologists say large letters indicate that you're people-oriented, while small letters suggest you're introverted.

And finally, how often you check your phone may tip people off to the kind of person you are.

If you're constantly refreshing your email or Facebook feed, one study found you may be less emotionally stable and trying to boost your mood.

What simple things do you look for in a person when developing a first impression? Is it all about eye contact, or maybe you focus on their posture?
