Travelers Give Mixed Reviews On Wait Times At Airports

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Travelers heading around the globe for the long weekend stood in lines to get through security screenings.

As the TSA is under fire over long wait times at security checkpoints, some travelers waiting in the line said they were so excited to get where they were going and didn't mind a little wait.

But some wanted to make sure their trip went extra smooth and planned to be at airports plenty early. Some also re-arranged flights to avoid airports known for longer lines.

"I usually try to make sure I come into some of the smaller airports," said traveler Elizabeth Johnson who was flying to Greenville, S.C.

Some arriving passengers said the lines were moving well at other airports too. Even Chicago O'Hare was celebrating some progress in cutting wait times with the average wait time Friday morning being 45 minutes. That's half as long as it was before.

Despite changes, lawmakers in Washington are still wondering why the lines are moving so slowly - holding congressional hearings to try to find solutions.

At the same time, the airlines are working to keep lines shorter at airports like one in Charlotte that's adding more staff to their desks and changing check-in spots.

Even so, long lines are still a real problem around the country and passengers flying out should be prepared when it comes to their return flights.
