WASHINGTON (CBSMiami/NSF) – Sen. Marco Rubio is headed to the nation's capital Thursday to hold a hearing on heroin-related issues.

According to Rubio's office, the Florida senator is being joined by a group of panelists including Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and officials from the U.S. Department of State and the federal Office of Drug Control Policy.

The Senate Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women's Issues, which Rubio chairs, will hold the hearing.

It is titled "Cartels and the U.S. Heroin Epidemic: Combating Drug Violence and Public Health Crisis."

Rubio also met last week with Jacobs to discuss heroin problems that are spreading in Central Florida, according to his office.
