SUNRISE (CBSMiami) -- A massive food fight at a Sunrise school broke out - leading to some students being led away in handcuffs.

It was chaos in the cafeteria and hallways of Piper High School after Sunrise Police say a massive food fight spilled over, disrupting classes and causing a disturbance.

When some students refused to go back to class and continued to cause a disruption, police moved in and some students were led away in handcuffs.

"It was a food fight but kids, they didn't care. They just did what they want," said student Darias Carias.

Seven students were arrested and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct in connection to the food fight.

The idea of the food fight reportedly came from some students who - over the weekend - were encouraging others to run around the campus and be disruptive without any cause or purpose, according to Broward school officials.

Chopper4 was over the scene around 1 p.m. Nearly a dozen police patrol cars could be seen parked in front of the school.

School officials believe the students wanted the same attention other schools have received.
