Back Injury Keeps Marlins' Yelich Out Monday

Miami Marlins left fielder Christian Yelich was left off of Monday's starting lineup against the Tampa Rays due to back spasms according to reports by MLB.com's Joe Frisaro.

Yelich, who leads the Marlins in on-base percentage this season, was scratched from the starting lineup Sunday – being listed as day-to-day by the team. Ichiro Suzuki has been playing in Yelich's place in left field.

The 24-year-old has had issues with his back in the past. Yelich spent time on the disabled list in 2014 and 2015 with back issues. However, he never spent more than 15 days on the DL each time.

Appearing in 41 games, Yelich was second on the team with a batting average of .320 and had recently strung together three straight games where he notched at least two hits.

The Marlins (22-21) have a two-game homestead (May 23-24) against the Rays before heading off on a five-game road trip – two games at Tampa Bay followed by a three-game stretch at the Atlanta Braves.
