HIALEAH (CBSMiami) -- Hialeah Police are investigating the death of a baby girl found inside a parked vehicle.

Residents of a Hialeah neighborhood had no idea why emergency trucks and cars were lining their streets.

Jose Serna thought it was possibly a fire.

"We saw the ambulance in the afternoon but we didn't know what the problem," he said.

Soon he learned his neighbor's 11-month-old baby girl was left in a hot van in front of a home at 3517 W 86th Terrace.

"It's very sad," said Serna, who is a grandfather of an 18 month old.

Someone had called 911 to report the child in the car sometime after 4 p.m.

While police don't know exactly how long the baby was in the van, they believe it could have been a few hours.

She was taken to Palmetto hospital, but declared dead by the time she got there.

Police told CBS4 they are still investigating this case.

It is unclear where the parents were while she was left unattended in the car.

No word on if any charges will be filed against the parents.
