FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Food and football go hand-in-hand and that's true Friday night at the third annual OBIES: A Taste of South Florida.

OBIES, which stands for Orange Bowl Impact and Excellence Awards, is a creation of the Orange Bowl Committee, which has been able to give millions of dollars back to the South Florida community by raising scholarship funds and honoring individuals for their community service.

The OBIES are food lover's dream come true as James Beard Award Winner Chef Michael Schwartz headlines a group of more than 30 of South Florida's top restaurants and speciality food purveyors who will serve their best bites for the chance to be named Flavor of South Florida.

WFOR/CBS4 is  a proud partner of the OBIES, which take place Friday, May 20th at the Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.

The evening will be hosted by CBS4's Lisa Petrillo with a special guest appearance by celebrity Chef Rocco DiSpirito.

There's also a raffle, an open bar, entertainment and a custom OBIES gift bag.

A group of graduating high school senior student athletes from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties will also receive scholarships and one outstanding South Florida resident will be honored with the 2016 Keith Tribble Community Service Excellence Award for the work he or she does to make a difference.

At this year's event, approximately $100,000 will be given back to the South Florida community.

Proceeds from The OBIES go toward Make-A-Wish Southern Florida, Special Olympics Florida and the Orange Bowl Leadership Academy.
