HOMESTEAD (CBSMiami) --  Wicked weather caused major flooding in parts of South Florida - including Homestead.

Drivers were being told to stay off the roads for their own safety - all this during the afternoon rush hour.

Despite the rain stopping just after 5 p.m., city officials said those in Homestead were dealing with severe flooding among other issues.

The Homestead Police Department, agreed with city officials, asking drivers to proceed with caution on the roadways if you absolutely need to be out.

They warned drivers if they do come upon a traffic signal with issues to please treat it as a 4-way stop.

Severe weather in the area also uprooted a number of trees.

Homestead Police said they were experiencing several power outages due to the weather.
