New Company Puts Private Jets At Your Fingertips

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Private jet travel may seem like a luxury, but that could soon change with the start of a new company.

JetSmarter allows its users to book private jets to travel to destinations around the world.

Since its launch in 2013, the company is attempting to cause turbulence in the private jet industry. The new app Jet Smarter lets you order up a charter jet as easy as ordering an Uber - if you can afford it.

"Private air planes used to be for the point one percent," said the CEO of JetSmarter, Sergey Petrossov. "We have expanded it from the point one percent to the one and a half percent of the population."

Though 98.5 percent of us can't afford a membership to JetSmarter it is an indicator of our present and future, convenience through technology and maybe one day never having to wait another TSA line again.

"I can tell you that in 7 to 10 years airplanes like this, they will become hybrid electric and we can get costs of seats down to maybe $75 to $100 dollars inside of a 500 mile flight," said Petrossov.

That means on day you could be taking a private jet from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta, which is roughly 600 miles away, for a little over a hundred dollars which is much cheaper than a flight on a commericial carrier.

That's Petrossov's goal.

"We think we can bring this to the masses. It's a massive possibility at least connecting major metropolitan cities," said Petrossov.

Your journey starts whenever you want. You can even create your own flight - day and time.

It's how Sam Debianchi, a Miami real estate mogul gets around.

"It's obviously a luxury but it's also an experience. The fact that I drive my car right to the parking lot, right to the hangar, I get on the plane, there's no waiting time, my sanity stays intact."

So for sanity seekers, if you don't want to take off your shoes at the TSA checkpoint, wait around the terminal hoping your flight isn't late, and let's face it, that's all of us, then you might consider taking JetSmarter for a test flight.

Membership is $9,675 a year.
