MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Holden Amory is recovering at the Delray Medical Center after a six hour facial reconstruction surgery on Tuesday just weeks after a piece of metal road debris smashed through his car windshield on I-95 near Palmetto Park Road and hit him in the face.

His mother, Emily Findlay, told CBS4 News that doctors believe the surgery went very well.

"It's all looking really great," she said.

From his hospital bed, Amory, an aspiring musician, offered a message to those praying for him

"Make sure to hold your loved ones close to you and listen to more good music," he said.

Like a song he recently wrote called, "Come Monday, I'll be New." Emily shared the song because she believes the message in the song is powerful and apropos.

"Every Monday, there's a chance to start new," she said. "And that's kind of like what this is now. He's getting a chance to start new."

Amory is facing a long recovery after the incident that occurred around 11 a.m. on Friday April 29th.

At a news conference on Monday, Amory gave a glimpse into his laid back and playful nature.

"This thing hitting me in the face is definitely my first smash hit," he quipped.

But there is a serious issue. Amory's attorney, Jack Scarola, believes this debris is part of a brake drum off of a large truck. He wants anyone who might have seen this piece fall off a vehicle to come forward. Yet his mother says despite what happened, she is finding the silver lining.

"It's really hard to be negative because there are so many positives," she said.

Like the fact that her son survived an accident that could've killed him. She and Amory's brother said Holden's spirit continues to amaze them.

"He's just risen above it and he's a bright, bright light," Findlay said.

"Like he says, it's another funny story for him to tell," said Steddy Amory, Holden's brother.

His family believes Amory will use this experience to write and sing about as he gets a second opportunity at life. The hope is that Amory will be able to leave the hospital on Thursday. There will be a major plastic surgery in his future to repair his nose and doctors have told his mother that they expect after the surgeries Amory should return nearly to normal.
