Woman Shot In Little Haiti Drive-By Speaks From Hospital Bed

LITTLE HAITI (CBSMiami) – A victim in a Little Haiti drive-by shooting is speaking out from her hospital bed – outraged at what she called a random act of violence.
"I thought I was gonna die, the last breath I would take."
Elba Panameno said the gunshot wound to her leg is extremely painful but she's just glad to be alive.
"I got hit, I felt burning. They had to do a transfusion, it hurt bad," she said.
The shooter pulled up in a car and opened fire early Sunday morning outside of her home at 170 NW 59th Street.
"I saw a guy creeping past the stop sign and he hit three people," Betty Panameno explained.
Panameno, her brother and brother-in-law were all hit. She said she was able to push her husband inside in the nick of time.
Panameno said she doesn't know who or why anyone would want to hurt her family.
She said she remembers seeing what she thought was a black Toyota Camry speed away before she passed out.
"We be been hearing shootings but we're not a target – no problem with anyone," she said.
Panameno's leg will heal. So will her brother's hand that took a bullet and her brother-in-law's shoulder.
But not easily fixed is her outrage over someone randomly firing at them – knowing anyone of them could have been killed.
"They get trigger happy. I'm glad my kids weren't there," Panameno said. "The gun violence has to stop."
The gun violence cut short her planned Mother's Day event which Panameno still wants to celebrate.
"I was gonna do barbecue with my kids and everything," she said. "I'll still do it when I get home."
