Peyton Manning Visits Dolphins To Work With Ryan Tannehill

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – When the Miami Dolphins hired new head coach Adam Gase, many speculated that he would have a positive impact on quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Gase has a reputation for working with players and maximizing their potential by working the offense around certain players' skills.

But that isn't the only thing working in Tannehill's favor.

Future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning, who was coached by Gase in Denver, came to South Florida earlier this spring to give some advice and tips to Tannehill.

Manning gave Tannehill insight into the kind of offense that Gase will be running.

They discussed several facets to the scheme, such as snap counts and receiver routes.

Speaking with CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, Tannehill discussed the experience of picking Manning's brain.

"It was really cool," Tannehill said. "A guy that had his career, the living legend he is, coming off a Super Bowl winning season—it was really cool just to be able to sit and pick his brain about things he's done in this offense and football things in general: snap counts, things you like, the way you want guys to run routes, little details about the game. We really just got to talk the game, which is something we both love.

"He is something I aspire to be, as good or better as he is one day. Hopefully, we'll be able to get him to come around some more."

If Manning comes back a second time to work with Tannehill, they'll be able to get a bit more in depth about the offensive playbook.

"At that time, we weren't able to meet with the coaches or anything, so I didn't really have a great handle yet," Tannehill said. "So I wasn't really able to dive into the playbook too much. So I had a few questions [for Manning]. If he comes back now, we can have a completely different conversation."

Tannehill was drafted by the Dolphins with the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and has started every game at quarterback for Miami since.

Manning played his final NFL game earlier this year, winning Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos. It was Manning's second Super Bowl win in four tries.
