Report: Rules Were Violated At Juvenile Center During Teen's Death

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) -- In the hours after a 17-year-old died following a beating by other teens, a state inspector general report found that a dozen employees violated the Department of Juvenile Justice rules and procedures.

The Miami Herald reports it took a full day for the top medical official on duty to read the "sick call" report after Elord Revolte was "stomped in the chest" on Aug. 30. The 66-page report released to the Herald late Monday also found that lockup staff didn't call police about the beating until after the teen died.

Since the incident, five employees have resigned or been fired and another seven were reprimanded.

Agency Secretary Christina Daly said in a statement that she'll hold everyone accountable when lapses in judgment or performance harm juvenile detainees.
