MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — One of two Miami brothers who reportedly shot a man because they believed he had stolen their mother's AK-47 rifle has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Benjamin Curry, 16, was convicted last fall of second degree murder.

Lonnie Reese, 24, was gunned down in broad daylight in September 2014. Investigators say the teen and his now-18-year-old brother Nathan followed Reese from a store in Miami's Brownsville neighborhood.

Police said at first the brothers argued with Reese, who then walked away. As he was leaving, police said Benjamin Curry told his older brother to go after him. Police said that's when Nathan Curry pulled a handgun from his waist band and shot Reese several times in the chest and back.

Reese died several days later at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Nathan Curry is still awaiting trial for first-degree murder.
