HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – Every dog has its day, and on Friday it was Lexie's.

The canine was found shot and left for dead on the side of a road in south Hollywood.

She was rushed to VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital where they began to stabilize her.

"She was lucky enough that she got picked up by a great organization called Grateful Paws that are picking up the bill for all this," said Dr. Angela Suarez.

The vet's office shared photos of Lexie's shattered front leg prepped for a special fiberglass cast made special just for her. They also shared a graphic picture of the gunshot wound.

"She could not walk, she was in shock. We started treating her and we found a through and through bullet wound in the right leg and it was broken the bone showed on X-rays," Suarez said.

Suarez thinks Lexie is "a lab boxer mix."

Lexie faces a two-month recovery. She's looking pretty good right now and the doc gives her a good prognosis.

"Any words for the people who shot this dog?" CBS4's Hank Tester asked Suarez.

"I hope they find you and you go to jail. It is a messed up thing that someone would do this to an animal," she replied.
