Florida Panther Struck, Killed In Hendry County

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Remains of a male Florida panther, which had been struck and killed by a vehicle, were found Tuesday in Hendry County.

Florida Fish and Wildlife said the panther was hit on the Josie Billie Highway, just north of the CR835 junction. They estimate the panther was only about a year old. It did not have a collar.

So far in 2016, 19 Florida panthers have been found dead, all but two were killed by vehicles.

Florida panthers once roamed the entire southeastern U.S., but only around 180 remain in the wild.
