MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) -- South Florida's finest spent the morning chatting with the community over a cup of joe.

The boys in blue met at the McDonald's on Alton Road for "Coffee with a Cop."

The annual event brings police and the public together to discuss community issues in an informal environment and was held at more than 20 McDonald's locations in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

"The main goal here is to come out, have coffee with a police officer and have a great time. No ulterior motives, just great conversation," said Ernesto Rodriguez with Miami Beach Police. "The number one goal here is to bridge the gap between the community and their law enforcement officers."

"Sometimes there's many issues where people don't know who to speak to or how to get in touch with someone, and this provides the opportunity to sit down with an officer one on one and discuss any issues that could be pertaining to that person or surrounding communities," said Stefanie Cabrera Bentancourt.
