MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Along with Earth Day celebrations, a Cooper City school honored a parent who recently passed and it came in the form of a garden.

One of the preschool students at Chesterbrook Academy lost his dad- Kenneth St. Fleur - in a motorcycle accident last year.

School officials said St. Fleur was an active member of their parent advisory group. They said he even came in last spring to plant flowers in recycled items and played a major role in the school with his now nearly 4-year old song Josiah.

On Friday, the school dedicated a garden to St. Fleur as pre-school students and parents celebrated Earth Day. The group released lady bugs in the new garden and got to take part in planting activities.

"The morning when mom called the school to let us know that Josiah's dad passed, it was a very tragic time for all of us. I think at that moment we realized that we had to come together to make sure that this was a safe haven space for not only Josiah but the family," said one of the school officials.
