FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Broward attorney accused of having sex with a client in the main jail is now trying to keep him out of prison.

The trial began Monday for Ysrael Granda. Attorney Jessica Mishali told a jury that he is being framed for attempted murder.

In late January, detention deputies accused Mishali of having sex with Granda. She has repeatedly said the allegation is false.

Still she is only allowed to see Granda through a glass partition, which she said it has limited her preparing for trial.

Granda faces two counts of attempted murder after Pembroke Pines police said he shot into a car in 2012 trying to kill his former girlfriend and her new boyfriend.

"He's thrilled we are finally in trial. We have been working three and a half years to show he's innocent," said Mishali.

Proving that comes with a cost.

Mishali claims just before trial, a detention deputy delved into her locker at the main jail as she was meeting with Granda.

"I did come back to my locker and it was broken into," Mishali said.

As if things weren't complicated enough, Lisa Jacobs – the prosecutor who was going to try Granda on a related case in Miami-Dade County – has quit after being arrested for drunk driving.

The dash cam video is under wraps.

"There's trouble with that being released. I think it has to do with Ysrael Granda," said Mishali

Mishali said the two have been targeted ever since Granda began cooperating on an investigation into how contraband was getting into the Broward Sheriff's Office main jail.

Mishali, who is married and the mother of a toddler, says she's never been out of order.

"Ysrael Granda and I have a strong relationship. I continue to defend him," Mishali said.

The trial continues Tuesday. If convicted Granda, faces life in prison.
