8 Cars Damaged After Overnight Break-In

HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) – Hallandale Beach police have arrested five teenagers they said are responsible for eleven smash and grabs overnight.

It happened at a complex in the 200 block of NE 14th Avenue.

Residents were roused out of bed to find that their car windows were smashed and thieves had been rummaging through their cars.

Surveillance cameras captured several teenagers casing the parking lot before one is seen breaking a window and climbing into the car.

In another shot, a teenager is seen trying to meddle with the camera.

"They jumped up but you can see their faces and what they were wearing," said resident Daniel Meloche who had a GPS device stolen

Police said a resident who was a victim called 911 after he saw the teenagers jump into a waiting red Volkswagen Jetta.

The car was stopped and police said they took five teenagers into custody.

Four are juveniles and police identified the driver as 18-year-old Jessica Orelus.

Authorities said all five are charged with car burglary.
