MIAMI (CBSMiami) - In September 1980, the world was in transition.

Ronald Reagan was running for president while in Eastern Europe the oppressive soviet regime was weakening.

At Southeast Texas State University, freshman baseball jock Jake Bradford was making his awkward first steps into manhood. That's the premise behind the new comedy "Everybody Wants Some."

The film follows a group of college baseball players as they navigate their way through the freedoms of unsupervised adulthood.

Lisa Petrillo sat down with the cast of the film which is a sequel to director Rick Linklater's "Dazed and Confused" which was set in the 1970s.

The cast said the era the movie was set in was actually their parents, so they relied on Linklater, who was in college during that time, to guide them through the crazy decade.

"He was there in our corner with any info we needed, like how to do a correct handshake, certain slang they used, like the ways to say something was cool," said Blake Jenner. "There was tons of music when we started, we just embraced the music part of this time."

"We call him "Rickipedia." For any questions we had about the 1980's, he knew it," said Will Brittain.

Petrillo said the movie is smart and not about a bunch of wild guys in college.

"I think for me what I appreciated about this film is there's not a lot of movies you can sit through for two hours and come out knowing 12 characters as well as you do in this," said Tyler Hoechlin. "I think the comedy lies in the relationship with these guys."

The movie is seen through the eye's of Bradford, played by Jenner - a Miami native.

"I didn't go to college so this was kind of the freshman year I never had, having a group of these guys and having to collaborate and work together," said Jenner. "We were all just behaving and living in that time and Rick did a great job of picking a great group of dudes to co exist and tell a great story."

"Everybody Wants Some" is out in theaters now.
