MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami Police have arrested a man wanted after a child was found in a Miami motel room surrounded by drugs.

Officers arrested Osniel Machado, 26, more than a week after police said they spotted him riding a scooter that had been reported stolen.

According to police, when they tried to stop him back on March 29th, Machado sped off and led them to the Motel San Juan on SW 9th Street and SW 24th Avenue where he got away.

Police said they were able gather evidence that led them to a room at that motel where Maidalys Oduardo-Paneque was staying.

According to a police report, Oduardo-Paneque allowed the officer into the room where police found a 2-year old baby boy sleeping in a bed.

Next to him, police said, was crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

The 25-year-old mother was arrested on child neglect and narcotics charges.

The motel manager said Oduardo-Paneque, her child and Machado - her boyfriend- had lived at the motel for two months, paying $343 a week for rent and says there had been no problems before.

While Oduardo-Paneque does not have a criminal history, records show that Machado in the past three years has been arrested for cocaine possession, grand theft, burglary and resisting arrest.

As for the child, at last check he was in the  custody of the Department of Children and Families and a shelter hearing was pending.
