MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An April Fool's Day prank by an off duty police officer in Utah has gone viral thanks to his body cam.

The video, which was posted on the Salina City police department's Facebook page, has been shared more than 55,000 times.

In the video the officer pulls over a driver who was speeding and tells him he's with the Salina Police "feline unit" and he needed to use his cat partner, "Officer Froo Froo," to sniff the car for the odor of drugs.

The officer then goes back to his patrol vehicle, gets his cat and takes it back to the SUV telling the bewildered driver that "If we hear three meows in a row then we know we're going to have an issue, okay?"

The officer then walks the cat around the vehicle.  The officer eventually let everyone in the SUV know that it was all an April Fool's prank.

On the department's Facebook page, the officer said the traffic stop was legitimate because the driver was going 11 miles over the speed limit in an 80 mph zone. He added that the prank was pulled on his own time and no tax payer dollars were spent on it.

"The few minutes of fuel will be paid for by me, I'm a salaried employee and this is on my own time, and last but not least, my sweet cat Froo Froo was not injured during this incident."

The officer ended up giving the driver warning and sending him on his way.
