DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) -- Investigators say they have put the brakes on a pair of construction thieves targeting south Florida businesses.

Acting on a Crimestoppers tip, police arrested 25-year old Dwight Pearson on Monday night.

The Broward Sheriff's office says Pearson and another man were captured on surveillance stealing from a work pickup truck in Pompano Beach and two different sites in Dania Beach.

"The suspect gave a confession to what he did. He's part of a crew working between North Dade and North Broward counties stealing from construction sites, "said Sgt. Kenneth Bowermaster with BSO.

Pearson's arrest comes after deputies released images of the two on a thieving spree through three Dania Beach businesses last month.

On Tuesday, BSO displayed some of the equipment they say was seized from Pearson's Miami-Dade home after his arrest

Some of the victims went to the BSO Dania Beach District office Tuesday to see if any of their stolen equipment had been recovered.

Ocean Bay Project manager Sierra Evans recovered a saw. She says thieves broke into a storage container at their Dania Beach construction site four times, stealing thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

"Its money lost you can't recover.  Insurance companies don't always pay what you need for the property," said Evans.

Marine business owner Boyd Tomkies who was burglarized in March has yet to recover the engines that were stolen from his Tigertail Boulevard location.

"It's the second time it's happened, leaves a bad taste in your mouth," said Tomkies.

Investigators said they are closing in on the second suspect. They say clear surveillance was instrumental in catching the thieves.

"We have a second suspect identified. We are currently looking for now," said Kenneth Bowermaster with BSO.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
