MIAMI (CBSMiami) - You may want to avoid the downtown Miami area this weekend.

Several roads will have detours for the annual Ultra Music Festival. The event kicks off Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday.

Changes in the downtown traffic pattern will begin Thursday night at 9 p.m.

All southbound traffic along Biscayne Boulevard will be detoured west at NE 4th Street, to NE 2nd Avenue and continue southbound on NE 2nd Avenue.

All northbound traffic along Biscayne Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes and shifted to the southbound lanes at SE 1st Street. It will continue northbound until NE 4th Street, where it will be shifted back to the regular northbound lanes.

There will be no street closures.

The best way to avoid the downtown traffic hassle is to take Tri-Rail which has extended its hours during the festival days.

Those attending the yearly event can board a train at any of the Tri-Rail train stations from West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami and grab a connection to and from Bayfront Park - where the event is being held.

Passengers heading to Ultra can ride the Tri-Rail to the Metrorail Transfer Station where they can grab the Metrorail. From there, they can head to the Government Center Station where they can grab the free Metromover to the College/Bayside Station.

For the return trip, attendees can take the Metrorail back to the Metrorail Transfer Station or the Miami Airport Station.

A special northbound Tri-Rail train is scheduled to depart at 1:35 a.m. from the Miami Airport Station after the arrival of the last scheduled Metrorail train.

As for the cost, Friday regular fares are between $2.50 and $11.55 and weekend fares are $5 all day
