MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Three D.J.s made history in Cuba by becoming the first major American group to perform in the island nation amid renewed relations with the U.S.
Major Lazer, the trio which includes world-renowned DJ Diplo, Walshy Fire and Jillionaire held a free kick off concert for the Musicabana festival, CBSNews reports.
"You have said though this is the most important show you have ever done," "CBS This Morning" co-host Charlie Rose said to Diplo.
"I think the pressure is on for us to do something, you know, it's kind of an amazing opportunity," Diplo said.
Diplo's song "Lean On" became a hit worldwide along with his work for M.I.A. and Justin Bieber. Diplo now plays more than 300 shows a year around the world - working to put Electronic Dance Music (EDM) at the forefront.
"I think it's important to play in places like this where the music is still brand new. These are the guys who are going to change it," Diplo said. "The kids in Havana, the kids in Pakistan, the kids in India -- they're the ones who are going to bring it to a new level."
CBSNews reports there was definitely rhythm in Havana with little talk of politics at the government-approved concert. All this at a time considered important for young Cubans who are now becoming more connected to the world.
"It's the first time they are getting connected," Diplo said. "I was surprised by how much they knew. How culturally aware the kids are considering there is kind of a blockade of culture reaching Cuba ... and I think it's going to change a lot, because when information starts to come you can't stop that flow."
