MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- One of the biggest rock 'n' roll bands of the century will be playing in Cuba this month.

The Rolling Stones announced Tuesday they will hold a free concert in Havana on March 25th - a first for the band.

"We have performed in many special places during our long career but this show in Havana is going to be a landmark event for us, and, we hope, for all our friends in Cuba too," the band said.

The band will perform at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Habana - also making it the first British Rock Band to hold an open air concert in the country.

This concert event follows the band's tour through Latin America.

The band's announcement comes days after President Barack Obama announced he would visit Cuba in March. According  to the band, the concert had been in the planning stages for several months.
