New Cases Of Zika Virus Hit Miami-Dade, Orange County

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) -- Three new Zika cases have been confirmed in Florida, state officials have announced.

On Thursday, State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. John Armstrong said they have discovered one new case in Orange County and two in Miami-Dade.

It pushes the total number of Florida cases to 35, all of which are travel-associated. So far, there have been no locally-acquired cases of Zika in Florida.

A day earlier, three pregnant women were discovered to have contracted the virus but officials did not say what counties they were from.

Of the travel-related cases confirmed so far, only four are still exhibiting symptoms

Wednesday, Governor Rick Scott requested the Center for Disease Control send 250 additional Zika antibody tests to the state. Earlier in the month, he activated a Zika Virus Information Hotline that has assisted 727 callers since it launched.
