POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – Detectives, deputies and crime scene investigators with the Broward Sheriff's Office spent hours at a Pompano Beach home Thursday where an adult man was found dead.

Late Thursday night, workers from the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office took out the man's body.

Now homicide investigators are searching for clues to unravel the mystery of the man's death.

BSO said deputies responded to a call of shots fired at the home around 2 p.m. on Thursday. When deputies arrived, they found a man dead inside and other people in the residence.

"The people in the home definitely are cooperating, they're talking to our detectives," said BSO Spokesperson Joy Oglesby.

BSO said the dead man did not live in the home and investigators were working to determine his relationship, if any, to the people who do live there.

At this point, BSO has not released any information on the man's identity, how he died or the circumstances surrounding his death. They're only calling this a death investigation.

It's all deeply unnerving for people who live in this neighborhood.

"The violence in South Florida is very shocking," said Dodie Harrison.

"I think I'm gonna make sure my doors are locked," said Joann Salzlein.

BSO said their goal is to learn what happened to this man, how he died and whether anyone needs to be held accountable.

"This is a life that was lost," said Oglesby. "There's somebody whose dead that has parents and we're just trying to figure out, you know solve that for them."

BSO says if you have information that can help their investigation, they want you to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
